Healthcare Professionals
Staffing and SkillsOur team is led by the Clinical Nurse Manager who is supported by a designated Director of Service and Quality. Clinical and personal development is a key priority in our organization. We employ experienced nursing staff who have been specifically trained to deal with complex health conditions and neurological injuries or conditions. Our Staff Development Officer manages all training provided in order to maintain the high quality of clinical skills required to manage the complex needs of our patients. This involves the provision of in house training in addition to the broad access Applegarth has to external training programmes provided in specialist acute units, NHS units and University hospitals throughout the country. We currently offer placements for student nurses and trainee doctors from the University of Cumbria. All of our nursing staff are skilled in such clinical skills as cannulation, changing tracheostomies etc. We monitor our patients’ conditions with the relevant up to date medical equipment. We are adept at managing challenging behaviour which is an integral part of some medical conditions. We have appropriately qualified RNs to complement our registered general nurse team.
Whilst the nursing staff takes the lead they are assisted by our healthcare assistants who are also highly skilled and trained professionals. A high percentage of our healthcare assistants have achieved NVQ at various levels and have undertaken LDAF, enabling some to be able to give training in various areas themselves. Newly recruited staff are actively encouraged and supported to achieve an NVQ or other qualification.
We are conscious in this modern era for patients to be accommodated in an environment that is conducive to their rehabilitation and well being. At Applegarth we have developed 3 modern units which provide state of the art facilities for our patients. The bedrooms are spacious enough to facilitate the most complex care. Each patient has an electric profiling bed with pressure relieving mattress and specialised hoisting facilities adapted to meet their transfer needs. The en suite rooms allow for assisted shower with a shower chair or height adjustable shower bed Education – availability to other organisationsAs we develop our own skills and expertise we are able to cascade this information through our organisation so that many of our staff at varying levels are multi skilled. Our Development Officer deals with all or our training requirements and on occasions we can offer a training programme for others. Please use our contact page to obtain details
